Prison Bus Bus Repair Guide: Fix Up the Bus and Start the Run
How to fix up the prison bus at the start of Prison Bus [ANOMALY]: collect the four wheels from the shelf, fit them on the hubs, fill the tank with the red Fuel Can, then press E to Drive and begin the transport run.
A transport run in Prison Bus [ANOMALY] starts before the road does. The game opens in a garage where the bus still needs its wheels fitted and its tank filled, and the fix-up is short: four wheels off a shelf, one red fuel can into the tank, then a seat at the wheel and a press of E to Drive.
Quick answer
Fix up the bus in the starting garage: pick up the 4 wheels from the shelf and install them on the bus hubs, then fill the tank with the red Fuel Can (10/10). Enter the bus through the front door, sit at the wheel and press E to Drive to start the transport run.
If you are new to the game, the Prison Bus beginner guide puts this opening in the context of a full run; this page stays on the bus itself.
Fixing the bus in the garage, step by step
The garage is the pre-departure preparation phase: the transport has not started yet, and the bus cannot take you anywhere until both jobs are done. The steps follow one order — wheels first, then fuel, then the driver's seat:
Checklist
- Pick up the four wheels
Take the wheels from the shelf in the garage; the hotbar shows Wheel x4 while you carry all four.
- Install the wheels on the hubs
Fit the wheels onto the bus hubs until all four are mounted.
- Fill the tank with the red Fuel Can
Use the red Fuel Can, which reads 10/10, to fill the bus tank before departing.
- Enter through the front door
With the wheels fitted and the tank filled, walk into the bus through the front door.
- Sit at the wheel and press E to Drive
Sitting at the driver's wheel and pressing E is the step that starts the run.

How you know the bus is ready
Two readouts in the garage double as a progress check. The hotbar's Wheel x4 counter confirms you have collected all four wheels from the shelf before fitting begins, and the red Fuel Can's 10/10 readout identifies the tool that fills the tank. The switch to ready is just as visible: once you are at the wheel, the dashboard shows a speedometer and a fuel gauge, and the top of the screen carries the miles-left progress bar toward Prison — 865 Miles Left at the start of the recorded run. From that point the repair is finished and the transport is under way.
The Prison Bus controls page covers the full layout of driving and on-foot controls beyond the Drive prompt.
Refueling once the run is under way
The garage fueling is the run's starting fill; top-ups on the road happen at gas stations. When a GAS STATION AHEAD prompt appears mid-run, you can refuel the bus there with a pump or a handheld nozzle, at $5.00 per gallon. This roadside refueling is distinct from the initial garage fueling that starts the run.
Where the repair sits in the transport run
The game's official description spells out the loop the garage belongs to: "You're a prison bus driver — Fix up the prison bus — Drive it to pick up prisoners — Survive anomalies — Get to the prison alive." Fixing up the bus is the first task on that list, and everything after it — collecting prisoners, surviving what the route throws at you, reaching the prison — depends on the bus actually being drivable.
Once you drive off, the run HUD takes over the top of the screen: the Prison progress bar tracks the miles left (the recorded run showed readings like 143, 460 and 761 Miles Left at different roadside stops), a 9-slot hotbar holds your supplies — a gas can, bandages, water bottles and a lantern were all carried in the recorded run — a hunger meter tracks hunger, and your cash is displayed ($841.33 in the recorded run).
From the driver's seat, the route leads on to the prisoner pickup covered in how to pick up prisoners, through the anomalies covered in Prison Bus anomalies, with staying alive for the whole trip covered by the Prison Bus survival guide. The Prison Bus route guide follows the road itself, and Prison Bus how to win covers what it takes to reach the prison alive.
Four wheels and one red fuel can are all that stand between you and the road. The garage session is short, it is the first task on the game's own list, and without it the bus is not going anywhere — so grab the wheels, fill the tank, and put the transport in motion.
