Prison Bus Enemies: Anomalies, Guards, and the Final Boss Professor Mike

Last updated:

Which enemies do you actually fight in Prison Bus [ANOMALY]? The road anomalies, the Blackwell Prison guards, the Professor Mike boss fight, and what Hardcore changes about them.

Quick answer

You fight three kinds of enemies in Prison Bus [ANOMALY]: the anomalies that threaten the drive to Blackwell Prison, armed prison guards in the end-of-run courtyard assault, and the final boss Professor Mike - a 3900 HP lab fight where he summons shadow anomalies. Hardcore mode makes enemies harder and removes free revives.

  • Professor Mike waits in the HIGH CLEARANCE AREA lab at Blackwell Prison, opened with a CLEARANCE L1 keycard.
  • Hardcore mode is only available to players who have already won the game, and winning it unlocks a free exclusive Armoured Bus skin.

Prison Bus [ANOMALY] calls its enemies anomalies, and surviving them is written straight into the game's own objective list: fix up the prison bus, drive it to pick up prisoners, survive anomalies, and get to the prison alive. The road is only half the danger, though. When the bus finally reaches Blackwell Prison, the run turns into real combat: the warden can order the guards to eliminate your group, and behind a keycard door in the HIGH CLEARANCE AREA lab waits the final boss, Professor Mike.

Where you meet enemies in a run

Hostility in [ANOMALY] is spread across the whole journey rather than concentrated in a single arena. Read a standard run from start to finish and the enemy encounters line up like this:

Enemies across a standard run

  1. 1

Fix up the bus and pick up prisoners

Repair the prison bus, drive it to the prisoner pickup, and get your passengers aboard.

  2. 2

    Survive anomalies on the road

The game's own run objective: anomalies threaten the drive after the prisoner pickup, and surviving them is the stated requirement for getting to the prison alive.

  3. 3

    Blackwell Prison courtyard

After you arrive, the warden asks you to escort prisoners to Cell Block 1, then can order the guards to eliminate your group. Armed guards assault the courtyard; whether the order is always given may depend on the warden-vote outcome.

  4. 4

Professor Mike in the HIGH CLEARANCE AREA lab

Open the clearance door with a CLEARANCE L1 keycard and fight the 3900 HP boss, who summons shadow anomalies during the battle.

The named enemy roster

The sources name four hostile presences in a [ANOMALY] run. The official description keeps the road threat generic — it never names individual anomaly types — but the ending sequence introduces specific, named enemies:

En route

Anomalies

The game's headline threat. Survive anomalies is a core run objective: they stand between your prisoner pickup and a safe arrival at Blackwell Prison.

Blackwell Prison

Armed prison guards

After the warden tells you to escort prisoners to Cell Block 1, the warden can order the guards to eliminate your group, and armed guards assault the courtyard. The order may depend on the warden-vote outcome.

Final boss

Professor Mike

Waits in the HIGH CLEARANCE AREA lab behind a CLEARANCE L1 keycard door. He has a 3900 HP boss bar and summons shadow anomalies during the fight.

Shadow anomalies

The backup Professor Mike calls into his own fight. They are documented appearing during the boss battle.

The Blackwell Prison finale: guards first, then the boss

The combat-heavy ending starts the moment the bus rolls into Blackwell Prison. The warden asks you to escort the prisoners to Cell Block 1, and one prisoner pleads that something is wrong inside — an accurate warning, as it turns out. The warden then orders the guards to eliminate the group, and armed guards assault the courtyard. One caveat comes with this fight: whether the warden always gives that order may depend on the warden-vote outcome, so treat the courtyard assault as a likely part of the ending sequence rather than a guaranteed one.

Whoever is still standing then gets one more door to open. The CLEARANCE L1 keycard unlocks the HIGH CLEARANCE AREA — the prison's lab — and Professor Mike is waiting inside.

Professor Mike: the boss fight explained

The fight has two moving parts. Mike himself carries a 3900 HP boss bar — a health pool you have to grind down while everything else is happening. And he does not fight alone: he summons shadow anomalies during the battle, so you are handling extra hostiles while chipping away at his health.

There is a confirmed way through it. In the run where this fight was documented, the player won using rifles and melee weapons, and Mike's death rolled straight into the aftermath the game shows you: he dies apologizing to his wife, the prisoners open the gates with a guard keycard, and the screen displays the final clear screen — GOOD ENDING MERCY. That makes the boss fight the final gate before the game's good ending.

What Hardcore mode changes about enemies

Hardcore mode, added in UPDATE 1, is where the enemy roster gets its difficulty spike — and it is gated. Only players who have already won the game can enter it. The official update notes sum up what is different:

  • Enemies are harder. The notes stop at that phrase; they do not break down how each individual encounter changes.
  • No free revives. Hardcore removes free revives, which is what turns the harder enemies into a genuine threat — a lost fight can no longer be undone for free.
  • An exclusive reward. Winning Hardcore unlocks a free exclusive Armoured Bus skin.

If you want to see how reviving works in the standard run before Hardcore takes the free version away, the revive guide covers it. The mode itself has its own page at Hardcore mode, and the reward skin is described on the Armoured Bus skin page.

Fighting back: rifles and melee

Combat tools exist for all of this. Rifles and melee weapons are both usable in [ANOMALY], and the documented Professor Mike kill used exactly that combination — so the loadout works in the run's biggest fight. For everything else you can carry, the weapons guide lists the arsenal.

From there, the anomalies page digs into the road threats, the survival guide covers staying alive across the drive, and how to win walks the full route to the ending. Know the roster, and you will know which named enemies wait on the road to Blackwell Prison.
